While the impressive graphical era promised by Epic Games for 'Rocket League' with the new Unreal Engine 6 is still on the horizon, Psyonix's title is not standing still and is preparing to receive significant modifications that will directly impact match development. Season 23 will be responsible for implementing one of the most requested features by players: the choice of respawn location for the car after being destroyed.
A brief teaser shared by the developers, under the slogan "The decision is in your control," previews this new mechanic. Until now, car respawn after a demolition was automatic. The new feature will allow players to select between two zones within their own half of the field. This change, while seemingly minor, can decisively influence defensive strategy, rotations, and counter-attacks in a game so dependent on reaction speed.
This modification holds particular relevance in the competitive scene. Being able to choose the respawn point will facilitate a quicker return to defensive actions, interruption of rival plays, or better coordination in 2v2 and 3v3 modes. Season 22 already introduced elements to enhance in-game information, such as the jump reset indicator and boost recharge times, continuing the trend of giving players more control.
Season 23, expected after the current cycle concludes around June 10th, promises to be groundbreaking. Although the engine upgrade will take time, the main novelty will lie in this respawn rule, designed to alter how players defend, rotate, and re-enter the game after each demolition, offering a more dynamic and strategic experience.
