The Provincial Council of Córdoba has presented the ‘Córdoba Smart Economy’ project, with an investment of 6 million euros, aimed at territorial and digital transformation to tackle depopulation, demographic aging, and the modernization of SMEs and the primary sector.

The project, selected within the RedCyTI program of Red.es and financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) for the 2021-2027 programming period, seeks to promote smart cities and territories. As explained by the delegate for Technological Development, Digital Transformation, and Youth, Sara Alguacil, the objective is to “modernize our province, boost our companies, improve public services, make our heritage visible and valued, and care for our elderly, in addition to promoting agriculture”.
Alguacil highlighted that it is the second-highest-rated project in Andalucía for European funds, emphasizing that the 6 million euros will be used to “prepare Córdoba for the opportunities already being generated by the technological revolution, making our territory more competitive, smarter, and more connected”.
Planned actions include reindustrialization along the axis of the Logistics Base of the Land Army (BLET) and the A-4 Highway, the transformation of Public Administration through Intelligent Assistance, and in the social sphere, the ‘Agua es Vida’ project. The agri-food sector will also be modernized, rural areas will be revitalized with 3D rural tourism, and innovation for SMEs will be fostered through itinerant laboratories and data spaces.
The project includes a Data Lake infrastructure and ICT adaptation, as well as the creation of digital twins for logistics, industry, and emergencies (BLET), and 14 heritage projects. Furthermore, predictive AI will be applied in Agrotech for agricultural yield and in the social sphere to detect anomalies in remote readings that alert about loneliness or emergencies in the elderly. Business Assistant AI will streamline administrative procedures.
To facilitate technology adoption in small rural businesses, Mobile Demonstrator Centers will be deployed, mobile units equipped with 5G connectivity and Edge Computing power. These units will travel through industrial estates and municipalities, offering practical workshops and training sessions for professionals.
