The business dynamism in Euskadi showed an upward trend in February, despite international uncertainty. The INE reported today that the number of new commercial companies grew by 29.6% year-on-year, leaving behind the negative figures recorded the previous month. In total, 403 companies were founded, while 141 were dissolved, a decrease of 25.8%.
However, the capital disbursed in these new companies contracted by 27.81%, totaling just over 29.39 million euros. This suggests an evolution in the type of businesses, with the services sector gaining more weight. This development aligns with what Confebask announced two weeks ago, although the Basque employers' association had reported more modest figures at that time.
February is generally a positive month for business creation, with 76 more companies (+0.1%) registered compared to February 2025.
By Historical Territories, almost half of the new commercial companies were created in Bizkaia (198), while Gipuzkoa saw 138 and Araba 67. Although Bizkaia concentrated the majority, the largest capital outlay occurred in Gipuzkoa, with a total of 22.54 million euros, compared to 5.76 million in Bizkaia and 1.08 million in Araba.
The number of commercial companies that increased their capital grew by 2.6% in Euskadi in February, reaching 120 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases amounted to 287.46 million euros, 55.5% higher than in February of the previous year. Of the 141 companies dissolved in Euskadi last February, 120 did so voluntarily, 11 through merger with other companies, and the remaining 10 for other reasons.
