Unemployment in the Canary Islands Drops by 2,189 People in June

The archipelago ends the month with 142,409 unemployed, a 1.51% decrease from May and a 5.50% year-on-year reduction.

The Canary Islands ended June with 142,409 unemployed individuals, marking a 1.51% decrease compared to May, according to data from the Ministry of Labor.

The Canary archipelago concluded the month of June with a total of 142,409 people unemployed. This figure represents a decrease of 2,189 unemployed individuals compared to the previous month, May, translating to a 1.51% drop.
The year-on-year trend in unemployment in the Canary Islands also shows a downward movement, with a reduction of 5.50%. In absolute terms, there were 8,295 fewer unemployed people than in June of the previous year.
Broken down by provinces, Las Palmas recorded 73,550 unemployed at the end of June, a decrease of 898 people (1.21%) compared to May and 5,203 (6.61%) compared to the same month in 2025. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz de Tenerife registered 68,859 unemployed, which is 1.84% less than the previous month (1,291 people) and 4.30% less than a year ago (3,092 people).
Of the total 142,409 unemployed in the islands, 60,273 were men and 82,136 were women. Additionally, 7,266 were under 25 years old, while 135,143 belonged to other age groups.
By economic sectors, unemployment was distributed as follows: 2,243 in agriculture, 5,224 in industry, 11,460 in construction, 112,757 in services, and 10,725 people who had never worked. All these sectors saw a decrease in unemployment compared to the previous month.
Regarding job seekers, by mid-year there were 217,041 in the Canary Islands, of whom 41,067 were employed, 22,779 had special working conditions, and 153,195 were not employed, including 10,786 subsidized agricultural seasonal workers.
During June, a total of 63,947 contracts were signed in the Canary Islands, representing an increase of 23.15% compared to May and 4.45% compared to June 2025. Of these, 27,757 were permanent and 36,190 were temporary.
Unemployment benefits requested in the islands by the end of May amounted to 28,294, of which 26,450 were recognized within an average timeframe of 0.44 days, with a total expenditure of 101.2 million euros.
