The Torremolinos City Council has approved in an extraordinary plenary session a modification to the ordinance that will reduce the waste collection fee by 12.5% starting January 1, 2027.

The Municipal Corporation of Torremolinos approved today, in an extraordinary plenary session, a modification to the ordinance regulating the fee for waste collection, transport, and treatment. This measure will represent a 12.5% reduction in the fee, a proposal already announced by the mayor, Margarita del Cid, on October 2nd.
The proposal passed with the favorable votes of the PP and VOX parties, and the opposing vote of PSOE and IU-Podemos. The reduction will be applied from January 1, 2027, linearly to the tariffs for homes, businesses, and industries.
The Councilor for Economy and Finance, Miguel Quesada, stated before the council, “With this new modification, we propose a linear reduction of more than 12% for all services because we understand that if the cost of the service decreases, that reduction must also be passed on to those who pay for it. Ultimately, our policy is very simple: that residents do not pay more than what it costs to provide the service.”
This measure, supported by prior economic and technical analysis reports, is in addition to the 20% reduction that has been in effect since 2023. Therefore, this new waste fee reduction represents a total decrease of 32.5% over three years.
The mayor had previously announced that the City Council is working on municipal regulations to better dimension domestic waste and waste from commercial and industrial activities throughout 2027, aiming to adjust the cost distribution to the reality of Torremolinos and achieve a fairer contribution for households.
