The city of Málaga has taken a significant step towards becoming a leading European technology hub with the awarding of construction contracts for its advanced semiconductor center, backed by an investment exceeding 168 million euros.

The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function has formalized the awarding of contracts for the construction of this strategic infrastructure, which will be located in Málaga TechPark. The center will be managed by the Belgian multinational IMEC, globally recognized for its chip research.
The majority of the investment, specifically 163.4 million euros (excluding indirect taxes), will be allocated to the creation of the complex's cleanroom. This high-precision space will be essential for the manufacturing and testing of next-generation microchips. The contract for this work has been awarded to a temporary joint venture formed by OHL, Sando, and Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos.
In parallel, the Ministry has also finalized the awarding of the contract for the power plant that will supply energy to the facilities. This second lot, budgeted at 4.9 million euros, has been granted to Grupo Render Industrial.

"The project is set to become a strategic infrastructure for Spain and for the European semiconductor industry."

This center will specialize in advanced chip prototyping, an increasingly important activity in the international race for technological transformation and to strengthen the continent's industrial autonomy. The facility will be a pioneer in Spain, housing the first advanced 300-millimeter semiconductor R&D plant, featuring up to 2,000 square meters of cleanroom space and over 60 high-tech processing units.
The central government has committed a total investment of 500 million euros within the Perte Chip program, a major industrial initiative aimed at strengthening strategic technological sectors. IMEC's arrival in Málaga also seeks to generate a driving effect on the Andalusian innovation ecosystem, fostering collaboration with universities, supporting tech startups, and promoting projects linked to deep technologies, particularly in areas such as photonics, quantum computing, and advanced medical applications.
