The Jaén Smart Destination Platform (PID), driven by the Provincial Council of Jaén, is nearing the completion of its development phase to transform provincial tourism management.

The Provincial Council of Jaén has announced the final phase of the Jaén Smart Destination Platform (PID Jaén), a project aimed at revolutionizing the province's tourism management. This initiative, with an investment exceeding 4.6 million euros and funded by European NextGenerationEU funds, seeks to create a digital infrastructure for the sector, offering tools for municipalities, new services for visitors, and improved coordination among administrations, companies, and tourism stakeholders.
Inés Arco, the Deputy for Electronic Government and Internal Affairs, highlighted that the province, with its rich heritage, nature, and olive tourism, is positioning itself as a smart tourist destination. The platform will enable real-time data collection and analysis to better understand visitors, plan evidence-based strategies, and coordinate the various players in the sector.
PID Jaén is conceived as a model of shared governance, promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange. The initiative has secured the adherence of 95 out of the 97 town councils in the province, demonstrating a strong commitment to a more digital, sustainable, and coordinated tourism model.
Among the developed tools are tourist websites for each municipality, the creation of promotional content such as videos and professional photographs, and a Virtual Tourist Office. These solutions aim to enhance the digital presence and visibility of all municipalities, regardless of their size.
Additionally, audio guides, augmented reality, and 3D content will be implemented for specific tourist products, such as the Route of Castles and Battles. The project also includes an online booking module, unique domains associated with QR codes for each town council, and sensing actions, particularly in the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park.
Jaén has played a leading role in the Network of Smart Destination Platforms, acting as a lead destination and collaborating in the validation of solutions. The ultimate success of PID Jaén will depend on the adoption of these tools by town councils, companies, and tourism stakeholders to drive territorial development.
