The province of Huelva has recorded employment figures in June that place it at the forefront of Spain, both in the downward trend of labor demand and in the reduction of Social Security affiliation.

The province of Huelva has become the epicenter of employment statistics in Spain during the month of June, standing out for both positive aspects and those reflecting the marked seasonality of its labor market, especially linked to the red fruit agricultural campaign. Although this influence persists, long-term data show a trend towards softening.
For the first time in a long time, the number of unemployed in the Huelva province has decreased in June compared to May, with a reduction of only 3 people. However, this figure is significant as it avoids the usual seasonal increase. The year-on-year comparison is even more revealing: 4,549 fewer unemployed than in June 2025, representing a 14.46% decrease, a figure not reached by any other Spanish province. With 26,905 unemployed, Huelva is returning to employment levels prior to the 2008 crisis.
The Social Security affiliation statistics, which offer a more precise picture of the labor market, show a drop in Huelva of 21,093 affiliates in the last month, representing a job destruction of 7.65%, also the highest in the country. Nevertheless, the year-on-year reading of affiliation is very positive: 9,803 more affiliates than a year ago, a growth of 4.0% that only Melilla surpasses nationally, once again placing Huelva at the forefront.
The gender gap in job seeking remains an area for improvement, with almost 5,000 more women unemployed than men, an increase that occurs after an agricultural campaign where female employment had a relevant weight. Young people under 25 represent nearly 10% (2,524 people) of the total unemployed in the province.
Sectoral variations highlight seasonality: the agricultural sector adds 385 more unemployed, partly due to the end of the red fruit campaign. The services sector, the engine of national employment, reduces unemployment by 595 people, although its momentum does not fully compensate for the loss in the agricultural field. The construction sector registers 30 fewer unemployed, while industry increases by 5 job seekers. The group with no prior employment adds 232 more unemployed, coinciding with the end of studies and the search for first summer jobs.
Regarding hiring, Huelva also shows dynamism with 3,118 more contracts in June, a 12.95% increase compared to the previous year. The year-on-year variation in contracts reaches 18.69% (+4,282), a notable figure only surpassed by Balearic Islands and Melilla, suggesting progress in the right direction.
