In an international context marked by conflicts and hybrid threats, Europe must assume a more active role in defense, requiring new technological capabilities. In response, TACTIX has been launched, a network of technological institutes researching advanced technologies for cognition, tactical simulation, and adaptive training.
The project, coordinated by ITECAM and involving centers like IBV, CTAG, AITEX, CTIC, ITI, and LORTEK, aims to advance immersive simulations for security and defense personnel, as well as decision-support systems. These technologies are also applicable to training professionals for emergency management, a key area given climate change.
TACTIX seeks to overcome current limitations in simulation technologies by incorporating the sense of touch through advanced haptic interfaces. The goal is to create more realistic training scenarios, improving operational readiness and reducing risks. Cognitive state assessment will allow training to be tailored to individual needs.
Funded by CDTI with nearly 6 million euros, the project focuses on the "digital human" concept, a realistic virtual representation of a person to enhance simulation and response prediction. IBV will lead the development of these digital humans, applying a 'human-centric' approach to assess the combatant's physical, cognitive, and psychological state.
José Solaz, IBV's Market Innovation Director, highlights that AI-based predictive models will improve simulation realism and evaluate performance and resilience, enabling the design of tactical equipment tailored for the future combatant.
TACTIX's innovations in simulation, AI, and biometric monitoring have dual applications, potentially extending to civil sectors like health, industry, and advanced education, for instance, in cognitive assessment in work environments.
