The Port of Alicante has recorded a positive balance in its main activity indicators during the first quarter of 2026, exceeding one million tons of merchandise and reinforcing its position as a logistical and tourist hub in the Mediterranean. Total merchandise traffic reached 1,052,902 tons, a 16.56% increase compared to the previous year, making it the second port with the highest activity growth, only behind Malaga. This boost occurred in a context where the President of the Generalitat, Pérez Llorca, conveyed the regional government's support for the Port Authority's strategic projects.
The increase was driven by general cargo, which rose by 40.42% to 643,826 tons, with a 24.2% growth in containerized cargo, a figure significantly higher than the national average (4%). Liquid bulk cargo grew by 57.3% (26,802 tons), and solid bulk via special installation increased by 16.62%, thanks to industrial and cement activity. Conversely, solid bulk without special installation decreased by 55.27% due to operational adjustments and changes in international logistics chains, while conventional merchandise saw a slight reduction of 9.2%, although it maintained stable levels for products like paper, recycled materials, and natural stone.
In terms of passenger traffic, the port welcomed 106,503 people between January and April, a 35.55% increase. The cruise sector showed particular strength with 64,345 accumulated cruise passengers (a 60.52% increase) and an rise in calls from 18 to 20. Vehicle traffic also demonstrated favorable evolution, with 35,199 units moved (an 87.38% increase).
During April, the port registered 313,015 tons of merchandise (a 42.43% increase) and 20,553 TEUs (a 50.75% increase). Exports showed a cumulative growth of 121.98%, while transit and transshipment exceeded 172,000 tons. However, import traffic moderated its growth by 35.55%.
The President of the Port Authority positively assessed the results, emphasizing "the adaptability and growth capacity of the Port of Alicante in an increasingly competitive and changing international logistics context," and highlighting "the joint effort of the entire port community." For his part, the President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, conveyed the regional government's support for projects involving expansion, modernization, new logistical infrastructure, and environmental transformation.
