The volume, revised by its author, Antonio Luis Galiano, extends the institution's trajectory until March 27, 2026, the date of its 125th anniversary. The presentation took place at a press conference featuring Orihuela Chamber President Mario Martínez, the book's author, and Antonio Pastor, representative of Caja Rural Central (CRC), the entity sponsoring the edition.
First published for the Chamber's 75th anniversary and updated in 2021 (120th anniversary), the book chronicles the evolution of an institution dedicated to the economic, business, and social development of Orihuela and the Vega Baja. Galiano explained that the revision updates content until March 27, 2026. Pastor highlighted CRC's support for disseminating local history, noting the bank's own history of over 107 years.
Chamber President Mario Martínez emphasized that the publication is not just a look at the past but a tool for understanding the present and future challenges of the region. He recalled the Chamber's mission to support businesses during times of expansion and uncertainty, highlighting transformations such as digitalization, sustainability, and training.
Martínez also underscored the Chamber's advocacy role in defending key infrastructure for regional development, including improved communications, rail connectivity, and the promotion of the Business Park. He recalled historical demands such as the arrival of the high-speed train (AVE).
Author Antonio Luis Galiano added that the revision completes the historical journey of an institution linked to the economic life of the city and its region, adapting to changes while maintaining its service vocation. He suggested including a digital version of the book on the Chamber's website for easier access.
The update is part of the 125th-anniversary celebrations, which will continue until March next year. Martínez concluded that the book reflects the Chamber's commitment to remaining a useful, accessible, and dedicated institution for the prosperity of Orihuela and the Vega Baja.
The presentation coincided with Ceuta Day, and Orihuela Chamber President expressed the institution's support for the people and businesses of Ceuta, affected by a severe migratory crisis. Martínez noted that economic losses in Ceuta already amount to 33 million euros, particularly impacting commerce and hospitality, and conveyed solidarity with the Chamber of Ceuta.
