HEALTH | INNOVATION | LONGEVITY
SOHO Clinic® drives a new era of longevity medicine in Southern Spain. The clinic founded by Dr. Laura San Martín (@laurasanmartin) and located in the emblematic Torres de Hércules in Campo de Gibraltar, develops an integral health model that combines preventive medicine, integrative dentistry, biomarkers, and technology to promote healthy aging.
Medicine is undergoing a transformation. The goal is no longer solely to diagnose and treat diseases, but also to anticipate them, identify risk factors, and improve quality of life over the years.
In this context, SOHO clinic®, a healthcare center located on the 13th floor of the Torres de Hércules, in Los Barrios (Cádiz), is committed to a care model that places prevention, innovation, and longevity at the center of healthcare.
Leading the project is Dr. Laura San Martín, an internationally renowned dentist, Doctor of Dentistry with European Mention, and entrepreneur, who has developed a health concept that goes beyond traditional dentistry, integrating different healthcare disciplines under a single philosophy: understanding the patient from a global perspective.
From treating diseases to anticipating them: the science behind individualized prediction
What if a dental consultation could provide relevant information about a person's general health status, beyond their teeth and gums?
This question is part of the philosophy driving SOHO clinic®, where prevention and early detection of risk factors play a leading role.
Scientific evidence shows that oral health is closely related to various systemic processes.
On this basis, SOHO clinic® is committed to incorporating a broader patient assessment, combining conventional clinical examination with complementary tests and collaboration among healthcare professionals.
Biomarkers: information that can help anticipate risks.
These tests can help identify situations requiring broader medical evaluation, always interpreted within the individual clinical context.
The incorporation of periodontal assessment tools, selected salivary tests, and digital diagnostic technologies and AI (Artificial Intelligence) allows for expanded information to design 24/7 prevention and monitoring strategies.
«The future of health is not just about treating diseases, but about anticipating them».
Medicine that connects different disciplines.
This model aims to foster greater coordination between dentistry, medicine, and other healthcare areas. SOHO's philosophy also includes analyzing lifestyle habits, sleep, nutrition, and other factors related to healthy aging.
In this way, longevity ceases to be understood exclusively as a matter of age and becomes a personalized prevention strategy, supported by scientific knowledge.
Because anticipating does not mean predicting all diseases, but rather identifying modifiable risks and acting on them before complications arise.
Dr. Laura San Martín and her team are committed to transforming healthcare by integrating dentistry, preventive medicine, technology, and longevity into a single health ecosystem.
The goal is to promote not only a longer life expectancy but especially a longer healthy life expectancy, a concept known internationally as healthspan.
«True longevity is not about adding years to life, but about adding life to those years».
The connection between oral health and general health
One of the pillars that differentiate SOHO's model is its commitment to evidence-based integrative dentistry.
For decades, dental care and general medicine have often developed in separate healthcare settings.
However, scientific research has revealed significant connections between oral diseases and certain systemic pathologies.
A particularly relevant example is periodontal disease, a chronic inflammatory process affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth.
Scientific evidence has demonstrated a bidirectional relationship between periodontitis and diabetes: poor glycemic control can increase the risk and severity of periodontal disease, while periodontal inflammation can hinder metabolic control.
«The oral cavity is not an isolated system from the body. Its health is part of our overall health».
Associations between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases have also been documented, although these relationships should not be automatically interpreted as causal.
These findings reinforce the importance of considering oral health as part of the patient's overall assessment and of fostering collaboration between dentists and other healthcare professionals.
The oral cavity is not an isolated system from the body. Its care is part of our overall health.
Healthcare innovation from Southern Spain: technology, design, and a new health experience
Innovation goes far beyond incorporating new technologies. It is part of a healthcare concept that integrates scientific knowledge, architecture, design, and patient experience.
Architectural transparency also becomes an expression of the organization's values: trust, closeness, and open communication with both patients and the team.
Natural light, open views, the predominance of glass, the selection of materials, and a minimalist aesthetic aim to convey calm, spaciousness, and well-being, moving away from the conventional image of healthcare spaces.
The design is inspired by principles related to neuroarchitecture, a discipline that studies how the characteristics of the built environment can influence people's perception, emotions, behavior, and physiological responses.
Scientific evidence suggests that certain environmental factors, such as lighting and space configuration, can influence patient comfort and experience. All of this has been taken into account in SOHO's design.
«At SOHO Clinic®, design is not just an aesthetic matter. It is a tool to create a healthcare experience where environment, technology, and well-being are connected».
This vision also incorporates a technological dimension: the interest in understanding how the body responds to environments and healthcare experiences.
The use of technologies capable of recording physiological signals, as well as tools for measuring brain electrical activity through electroencephalography (EEG), opens up possibilities for studying responses related to physiological activation, attention, and certain states of relaxation.
«Innovation is not just in the technology we use, but in how we design every detail of the patient experience».
From healthcare to an international reference knowledge ecosystem
Dr. San Martín's international career, marked among other experiences by her time at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) and her contact and collaboration with prestigious institutions like the WHO (World Health Organization), has influenced her understanding of healthcare innovation. Inspired by models encountered during her experience in the United States, Switzerland, and England, Laura San Martín decided to develop her own project from Cádiz that connects clinical care, research, training, and entrepreneurship.
Today, this vision is materialized in SoHo Academy®, an ecosystem that receives professionals from different countries each year interested in learning about its philosophy and work protocols.
This philosophy also extends to training and entrepreneurship.
Through SoHo Academy®, Dr. Laura San Martín promotes educational programs, professional meetings, and training experiences that connect science, innovation, and clinical practice.
From Campo de Gibraltar, Laura San Martín and her team continue to foster an ecosystem that connects knowledge with a focus on new, more predictive, individualized, and interdisciplinary care models.
SOHO Clinic® is complemented by SOHO Academy®, its educational initiative for healthcare professionals, and MBA dental®, a specialized program in management and entrepreneurship.
Each year, professionals from different parts of the world visit SOHO to experience firsthand a model that connects innovation, knowledge, and a new way of understanding healthcare with internationally renowned educators.
«From Southern Spain, SOHO clinic® becomes an international meeting point each year for professionals seeking new ways to understand health, innovation, and clinical excellence».
From Andalusia, Laura San Martín continues to develop a project that demonstrates that the transformation of healthcare depends not only on technology but also on the ability to question traditional models and design new ways of caring for people.
Because the future of medicine has already changed.
