The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche and the Higher National Veterinary School of Argelia will initiate a scientific collaboration to improve the reproduction and productivity of meat rabbits.

Researcher Rafik Belabbas from the Higher National Veterinary School of Argel has completed a stay at the Agri-food and Agro-environmental Research and Innovation Institute (CIAGRO) of the UMH. During his visit, he worked with researchers María José Argente Carrascosa, María de la Luz García Pardo, and Iván Agea Durán, specialists in improving the reproductive efficiency of meat rabbits.
New strategies to increase productivity in two local rabbit breeds have been analyzed. The collaboration includes joint publications and opens the door to future lines of scientific cooperation between both institutions.
This activity is part of two research projects: the National Plan project 'Response to chronic heat stress in two lines divergently selected for resilience' (ref. PID2024-159651NB-C22) and the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA) project 'Impact of postbiotics on the productive performance of resilient rabbit lines: integrating multi-omics analysis and extracellular vesicles' (ref. CIAICO/2026/187).
Through this initiative, the UMH reinforces its commitment to international projection and promotes scientific cooperation between research centers.
