The State Research Agency and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology organized an international workshop on clean energy in Madrid, bringing together over 50 European projects at CIEMAT.

The State Research Agency (AEI), along with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), and in collaboration with the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), has organized an international workshop for the TRI2 and TRI3 initiatives of CETPartnership. The event focused on knowledge exchange, technology connection, and the generation of new collaboration opportunities in the field of clean energy.
From October 6 to 8, the CIEMAT facilities in Madrid hosted the TRI2-TRI3 Collaborative Workshop on Innovation for a Clean Energy Transition. This three-day event brought together representatives from over 50 European research and innovation projects funded under the European association Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETPartnership).
The workshop enabled scientific and technological advancements, identification of common challenges, and exploration of synergies among projects that contribute to accelerating the development and integration of innovative technologies for a cleaner, more sustainable, and efficient energy system.
The meeting gathered the scientific and technological communities of the TRI2 and TRI3 (Transition Initiatives) of CETPartnership, which address complementary areas of energy innovation. TRI2 focuses on advanced renewable energy technologies, while TRI3 addresses technologies related to carbon management, CO₂ capture, utilization, and storage, hydrogen, and renewable fuels.
The connection between both initiatives is fundamental for a comprehensive perspective on the energy transition. During the three days, advancements from over 50 European projects were presented and discussed in thematic sessions covering offshore wind energy, new generations of photovoltaic technologies, sustainability of solar materials, concentrated solar thermal power, CO₂ capture and storage technologies, hydrogen, renewable fuels, and bioenergy, as well as cross-cutting issues like energy system digitalization and artificial intelligence.
The workshop highlighted the close relationship between these research areas, such as the link between renewable electricity generation and the production of hydrogen. The creation of a space for knowledge and experience exchange among research teams was a key value of the meeting, fostering mutual learning and the identification of shared technological challenges.
In addition to project presentations, the program included discussion panels, participatory workshops, and networking activities. The organization of this event reflects the commitment of the State Research Agency, with the support of FECYT, to promoting international scientific and technological cooperation and participation in European initiatives to address energy transition challenges.
CETPartnership is a European partnership co-funded by Horizon Europe that promotes transnational research and innovation to accelerate the transition towards a clean and sustainable energy system.
