The Hotel Intelier Orange in Benicàssim has completed a comprehensive renovation of its air conditioning and thermal production system, replacing natural gas boilers with high-efficiency heat pumps.

The project, carried out in collaboration with ATuAire by Iberdrola, enables the hotel's energy needs to be met with advanced technologies. The installation includes air-to-water heat pumps for heating and cooling, and water-to-water heat pumps for domestic hot water (DHW). The four-pipe system simultaneously generates cold and heat, ensuring guest comfort year-round and producing 100% of DHW without fossil fuels.
One of the key innovations is internal energy recovery, which utilizes heat generated during cooling to supply heating and DHW. During peak season, when demand for both cooling and hot water is high, DHW production occurs with minimal energy cost, enhancing operational sustainability.
Economically, the project results in an approximate 43% reduction in energy and maintenance costs. The hotel now incurs only 57% of its previous costs, while improving service and comfort. This efficiency is achieved through the heat pumps, simultaneous cold and heat production, and energy recovery. Maintenance operations are also simplified.
Environmentally, the elimination of natural gas and its replacement with renewable electricity virtually eliminates direct CO₂ emissions from heat production, positioning the hotel as a sustainability leader. ATuAire by Iberdrola thus strengthens its role in the energy transformation of the tourism sector.
Additionally, the establishment has recently installed an electric vehicle charging infrastructure with multiple charging points, further enhancing its sustainability offerings.
