The Ciudad Idea Elche Institute (Icie) held its second 'Punto y seguido' event on Friday, celebrating its eighth anniversary and honoring local businessman José Quiles Parreño. The event also served to discuss the collective's future and upcoming activities.
President Manuel Romero highlighted the importance of civil collectives like Icie, stating that "people make cities." He acknowledged the career of Pepe Quiles, who received the award and reviewed his professional journey. His work includes promoting the UMH, founding Fundeun, developing the CEU, and his political role in UCD, which led to the creation of the Bus Station.
Vice-president Jaime Javaloyes presented the future action plans: a demographic study of Elche with 30-year simulations projecting a city of 270,000 inhabitants; attracting the technology industry; and addressing concerns about the Palmeral, advocating for new uses for its preservation.
Deputy Mayor Francisco Soler concluded the speeches by thanking Icie's proposals and the work of civic entities, emphasizing the plurality and role of its members, who are generally from liberal professions.
During the event, the young orchestra 'Com una guitarra' from the Elche Conservatory performed, playing songs ranging from Queen to Studio Ghibli compositions, receiving warm applause.
