The presentation of this chair, which took place on Wednesday, May 6 at the Cheste circuit itself, marks a milestone in training and research. The director of the Circuit, along with the directors of the Chair, highlighted the main mission of transferring knowledge and research from the motor world to society, especially in aspects such as road safety and health.
“"The Motorsport Chair provides the Comunitat Valenciana with a prestigious body that, in addition to visibility and reputation, attracts talent, investment in R&D, and positions VIU and the Circuit as leaders in the motor world. Once again, at the Circuit, we are pioneers."
The rector of the International University of Valencia (VIU) emphasized the importance of these initiatives that demonstrate the collaboration between academic research and elite sports. Thanks to the Motorsport Chair, issues such as emergency medical care, the relationship between sports driving and driver reactions, and their mental health will be addressed comprehensively and multidisciplinarily, with the aim of generating specific scientific results.
The leaders of the Chair expressed the desire for all the knowledge generated in motor sports, especially in competitions like MotoGP, to be transferred to society. They highlighted that a racing pit box is practically an operating room, and that telemetry can provide great value to road safety.
This strategic alliance seeks to address critical challenges in the sector regarding sports-health, road safety, and the protection of young talent, as well as to produce scientific advances in the world of competition. The Chair, which will be taught both online and in-person at the Circuit, will also offer a training opportunity for young drivers at the Motor Technification Center.
The Joint Commission of the Chair has designed a strategic plan with activities such as the International Pre-World Championship Conferences, which will be held as a prelude to the Comunitat Valenciana Grand Prix. The Chair, with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, will cover four main axes: health and well-being, psychology and neuroscience, public road safety, and management and communication. The ultimate goal is the creation of a 'White Paper' on the motor world.
The general director of Sports highlighted the importance of investing in training through this initiative, noting that the Circuit Ricardo Tormo is one of the most innovative circuits and is part of the identity of the Comunitat Valenciana due to its sporting roots and economic impact. He concluded that the Motorsport Chair will organize and transfer this knowledge, providing a replicable model.
