This closure marks the end of an era for local gastronomy, as Hung was the first Chinese restaurant in the town, opening its doors on August 18, 1991. Its Cantonese proposal, with a menu that offered up to 130 dishes, has accompanied several generations of loyal customers.
The owner, who arrived in Spain at the age of 16 from Hong Kong, began his culinary career in Bilbao, where he remained for 13 years. The decision to settle in Benicàssim arose from the detection of a clear opportunity: the absence of Chinese restaurants in the town, which at the time had about 8,000 inhabitants.
“"The distinct personality of Cantonese cuisine was one of the keys that allowed the establishment to maintain itself even in the years when there were more Chinese restaurants in Benicàssim."
Among the dishes most remembered by customers are the toasted rice with prawns and the iconic Peking duck, served with its sauce and crepes, allowing diners to prepare it to their liking at the table. Consistency and close treatment have been fundamental pillars for the business's success.
The closure is due to the retirement of the owner, aged 65 with 48 years of contributions, who seeks to start a new stage with more time to travel and enjoy life. The premises, 170 m² in size, bright and with a strategic location, will be available for transfer, with a future yet to be written, but with its role in the hospitality history of Benicàssim already secured.
