The new store, located at Calle Alfonso VI, number 64, represents an investment of six million euros and involved 59 suppliers in its construction. This model introduces significant changes in space organization and internal management, aiming to optimize the shopping experience for customers, whom the company internally refers to as 'Jefes' (Bosses).
One of the key innovations is the comprehensive reorganization of the store, shifting from a business-based structure to one organized by processes. This facilitates a more intuitive product layout, streamlines the shopping journey, and improves staff coordination in restocking tasks.
A notable feature is the creation of the Central Workshop (Obrador Central), a space that unifies the preparation of fresh products. This centralization optimizes resources, reinforces quality and freshness standards, and frees up more self-service area for these items. According to the company, this measure reduces energy consumption by up to 10% and water consumption by up to 40%.
In terms of technology, the store integrates electronic devices and collaborative tools for self-management, decision-making, and process streamlining. The cold display units feature Aerofoil systems to minimize temperature loss and use carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a refrigerant, thereby reducing environmental impact.
Mercadona frames this opening within the evolution of its previous model, 'Tienda 8'. The progressive rollout of 'Tienda 9' will occur between 2026 and 2033, with a projected investment of 3.7 billion euros dedicated to transforming its commercial network.
The Valdemoro store also offers services adapted to new consumption habits, including a customer rest area. The supermarket will be open Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM, and features a parking lot with 158 spaces, including spots for electric vehicles and bicycles. Customers can also shop online through Mercadona's service, maintaining the Siempre Precios Bajos (SPB) strategy.
