The CanSat project, a European educational initiative focused on designing mini-satellites, has recognized the work of students from the Community of Madrid. The public institute Malala Yousafzai, located in the Madrid district of Fuencarral-El Pardo, received the Honorary Award at the fifth edition of the national final. The event took place at the Talavera la Real Air Base in Badajoz, with the participation of sixteen teams from across Spain.
This award highlights the high quality of the work carried out by the Madrid educational center, as well as the team's effort and innovative approach. Their proposal stood out for its strong scientific commitment, including a secondary mission designed to improve response to forest fires. The objective is to quickly locate residual heat sources after a fire to prevent reactivation and spread, a pressing need given rising temperatures and droughts.
Over the two days of the competition, participating teams conducted technical verifications, launched their mini-satellites for data collection, and presented their findings to a panel of experts. The Honorary Award, one of six official recognitions, is given to projects demonstrating singular value.
With this achievement, the team from the Community of Madrid solidifies its excellence in educational, technological, and scientific fields. The initiative fosters STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) vocations among young people and strengthens the region's position in educational innovation.
