The number of women entrepreneurs in Spain continues to rise, with an increase in the female Entrepreneurial Activity Rate (TEA), and the Community of Madrid is positioned as one of the most dynamic regions in this field.
Data from the GEM Spain 2024-2025 Report reveals an increase in the female TEA, rising from 6.1% to 6.8%. Despite this progress, access to financing remains a significant challenge for women seeking to develop their business initiatives.
In response to this need, MicroBank, CaixaBank's social entity, has played a crucial role. During 2025, the institution granted 7,423 microcredits aimed at female entrepreneurship, representing an investment of 145.8 million euros. This figure marks a 13.3% increase compared to the previous year, with an average amount per initiative of 19,652 euros, 15.9% higher than in 2024.
This financing has facilitated the creation of 2,890 new businesses led by women, generating 7,341 jobs. The profile of young entrepreneurs (under 30) also shows growth, representing 35.6% of financing applicants in 2025, compared to 34.5% in 2024.
By region, Catalonia leads female entrepreneurial activity with 25.2%, followed by Andalusia (20.4%) and the Community of Madrid (15.9%). The sectors with the highest concentration of women entrepreneurs are hospitality (20%), beauty (19%), and retail (19%).
A study by MicroBank in collaboration with Stone Soup Consulting and KPMG indicates that 42% of women undertake to achieve independence, 20% due to vocation, and 9% by detecting a business opportunity. In addition to financial support, MicroBank offers non-financial assistance through more than 280 collaborating entities across Spain, mentoring programs with Fundación VISA and Autoocupació, and the MicroBank Academy platform with nearly 100 online courses.
The entity has also strengthened initiatives such as the Programa Emprendedoras, in collaboration with the Women's Institute and the Chamber of Commerce, and has participated in the Gender Finance Lab of the European Investment Bank. These actions consolidate MicroBank's commitment to promoting female entrepreneurship, providing financial and support resources to help women turn their ideas into solid projects.
