The Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) hosted, from October 5 to 9, 2026, the EUROfusion TSVV Project – CIEMAT Joint Meeting on Stellarator Optimization. This joint scientific meeting of the EUROfusion TSVV-I project and CIEMAT's National Fusion Laboratory brought together researchers from internationally recognized centers in the field of nuclear fusion. The primary objective was to exchange knowledge and advance research on the optimization of stellarator-type devices.
The meeting, organized by CIEMAT researchers Iván Calvo and José Luis Velasco, along with Joaquim Loizu (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and Félix I. Parra (Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory), continues a series of meetings dedicated to fusion plasma theory previously held at CIEMAT in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2023. Throughout these editions, the topics addressed and the list of participants have evolved with scientific advancements, maintaining the common goal of promoting debate and collaboration among specialists.
The format of these meetings is characterized by combining scientific presentations with ample time for discussion and work in small groups. This methodology fosters direct idea exchange, joint analysis of scientific challenges, and identification of new collaboration opportunities.
EUROfusion is the European consortium coordinating the nuclear fusion research program in Europe. The TSVV-I project (Theory, Simulation, Verification, and Validation) focuses on the optimization and design of stellarator-type magnetic confinement fusion devices. By hosting this meeting, CIEMAT reinforces its role as an international reference center in nuclear fusion research.
