The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, inaugurated two new Data Processing Centers (CPDs) from the technology company Equinix in Alcobendas this Friday. This opening is part of the 460 million euro investment commitment announced after an institutional visit to the company's headquarters in New York last year.
During the event, Ayuso stated that «Madrid once again demonstrates that it is the place where everyone wants to be and where digitalization serves businesses and people», according to the Regional Government.
The Madrid president recalled her meeting in the United States with Equinix executives, where the investment commitment for the region was sealed. Ayuso argued that the Community of Madrid has established itself as the «technology hub of Southern Europe», leading the installation of data centers in Spain. Currently, there are 40 operational CPDs, 15 under construction, and a pipeline of over 40 new projects expected to exceed 3,100 megawatts of power.
The head of the regional executive noted that «data is as strategic today as highways, ports, or energy were in their day» and warned about the need «not to become complacent with introspection or regulations» to avoid hindering the progress of «thinking minds and experience».
Additionally, Díaz Ayuso participated in the commemorative event for the 20th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Group Services Madrid, an international company in the automotive sector headquartered in San Sebastián de los Reyes, employing nearly 1,000 professionals from 45 nationalities. The president described the German firm's trajectory as «the best version» of a Madrid that is «demanding, ambitious, and open to the world».
Díaz Ayuso thanked companies like Mercedes for their trust in a region she considers «home for everyone, where so many want to invest, study, work, and live their best moments». She attributed this situation to policies of «freedom», public-private collaboration, reduced bureaucracy, and attractive taxation. She highlighted Germany as a «major partner» of the Community of Madrid, with over 4 billion euros invested in the last seven years and more than 1,600 companies linked to various sectors.
