The European project CEMTex, in which the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge (ACIS) participates, held its third follow-up meeting in Vigo, focused on promoting the circular economy in medical textiles.

The city of Vigo hosted the third follow-up meeting of the European project CEMTex. In this initiative, the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge (ACIS), on behalf of the Galician Health Service, along with eight European regions and coordinated by the Dutch province of Gelderland, aims to promote more sustainable models for managing medical textiles. The project has a budget of 1.7 million euros for four years.
The event included visits to the laundry facilities of the Meixoeiro Hospital and the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital, where attendees could closely observe sustainability initiatives in the healthcare sector, including nature-based and behavioral science solutions. The main objective was to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders in the healthcare textile value chain and promote innovative solutions.
During the meeting, progress on the CEMTex project was presented. This project works to advance the circular economy in medical textiles by identifying opportunities and overcoming barriers to move towards more sustainable production, use, and management models. The initiative seeks to connect the knowledge and experience of the healthcare, business, technological, and environmental sectors.
The meeting was led by José María Romero, director of the Health Innovation and Development area at ACIS, and Beatriz Piñeiro, coordinator of the Circular Economy Strategy for SERGAS of GALARIA. Attendees included healthcare representatives such as José Manuel Olivares Díez, healthcare director of the Vigo Health Area; Víctor Miguel do Campo Pérez, head of the Preventive Medicine Service; and Antonio Rodríguez Pena, nursing deputy director of the Vigo Health Area. Entities such as the Galicia Health Industrial Group, ICSEM, COINTEGA, WIM Studio, VIMBIO CORP, and Arroupa also participated.
