Vitoria-Gasteiz hosts 5th Greenencounter to discuss competitiveness and sustainability

The forum will bring together business, institutional, and social stakeholders at the Arkabia space on June 3rd to analyze the territory's future.

The Arkabia space in Vitoria-Gasteiz will open its doors on June 3rd to celebrate the 5th Greenencounter, under the theme "Competitiveness and sustainability: Driving forces in our territory".

Organized by Diario de Noticias de Álava, the forum is consolidating as a key meeting point for the business, institutional, and social fabric. The opening will be led by César Martín, director of Diario de Noticias de Álava; Irantzu Allende, Vice Minister of Energy Transition of the Basque Government; and Maider Etxebarria, mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
An international perspective arrives at 9:45 AM from the European Commission. The event will feature Johan Stierna, lead scientist at JRC Fair and Sustainable Economy and co-author of the prestigious Draghi Report on the future of European competitiveness, who will detail the continental challenge of combining sustainability with economic strength.
Immediately after, at 10:05 AM, the focus shifts to the local and urban sphere with the roundtable "Smarter, Sustainable, and Healthier Cities". Participants include Mattheus Bil (Commercial Director at Luznor), Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa (Director of Health and Sustainability at Eroski), and Mikel Ibarra (Director of Innovation at ACLIMA). The session will be moderated by Ibone Ametzaga (coordinator of the UNESCO Chair of Sustainable Development and Environmental Education at UPV/EHU).
Energy and practical cases take center stage at 10:50 AM in the "Changemakers - Innovating with Energy" block, focusing on the case of Iberdrola. This session includes contributions from Roberto Garay Martínez (Principal Investigator at Deusto Sustainable Research Group, University of Deusto) and Fernando García (Data Science Coordinator at the BCAM Transfer Unit).
Following a coffee break and networking session at 11:10 AM, activities resume at 11:40 AM with a panel dedicated to industry and sectoral balance. Participants include Natalia Díaz de Arcaya (Director of Aid and Value Services at EVE), Marieli Arroyo (Head of Business and Impact in Sustainability at Kutxabank), and Alexander Boto (General Director of Ihobe-Basque Government), moderated by Stephania Mosquera (researcher at Orkestra - Basque Institute of Competitiveness).
The final segment of the event addresses "The Challenge of Decision-Making in Uncertain Times" at 12:25 PM, a presentation by Víctor Viñuales (representative of the ECODES Foundation).
At 12:45 PM, the forum focuses on the future of the Alava capital with the "Changemakers - The Vitoria-Gasteiz We Want" session. Within the Vitoria-Gasteiz 2030 framework, six young individuals from Unicities 2030 will present their proposals to tackle six real city challenges. This panel is enriched by the insights of Roberto González Argote (Head of the Citizen Activation Area at CEA) and the presentation "Facing the Challenge: Mindset, Planning, and Action," led by Ruth Brito (Long-Distance Triathlon World Champion, founder and CEO of e-TriEskola, and city ambassador).
The event concludes at 1:30 PM with the official closing ceremony at the Arkabia space. The forum is sponsored by Iberdrola and Kutxabank, with the collaboration of Luznor, Eroski, Aclima, Ihobe, Fundación Vital, and Motor Gorbea.
