“"Thanks to the joint work of winemakers, institutions, and entities such as the Wine Route, Rioja Alavesa has established itself as a benchmark enotourism destination. This growth has been bolstered by the investment of European funds, which have allocated over 80 million euros to sustainable tourism plans in Euskadi, of which 5.5 million have been assigned to projects in Rioja Alavesa, impacting its municipalities."

Javier Hurtado, Councillor for Tourism, Trade, and Consumption of the Basque Government, participated in the XVI Rioja Alavesa Enotourism Forum to discuss the future of enotourism in the region.
Councillor Javier Hurtado announced at the XVI Rioja Alavesa Enotourism Forum that the region has solidified its leading position in enotourism. This gathering brought together industry professionals to deliberate on the present and future of this vital activity, emphasizing the need to translate ideas into concrete actions under the motto “From words to deeds and how to improve the journey.”
The Councillor underscored the strategic role of enogastronomy as a driver of sustainable tourism development. This model contributes to deseasonalization, better distribution of visitors, and differentiation from other destinations, while offering a complementary quality experience for both leisure and business tourists.
Hurtado reiterated the commitment to initiatives that strengthen the sector, such as the Enotourism Forum itself, the Rioja Alavesa WIP brand, and events like Orbea Gravel Rioja Alavesa. All these initiatives align with a strategy based on quality, sustainability, and respect for the environment.
