The public provincial company Arabako Bideak-Vías de Álava S.A. has awarded the contract for the project, construction, and operation of the new pay-per-use system on the Álava section of the AP-68 highway, with an investment of 37.2 million euros, excluding VAT.

The contract has been awarded to the temporary business union Autopistas-Gertek-Altuna y Uría, with a budget of 37,234,389 euros, excluding VAT. This award covers the execution of material works and the installation of technological equipment required to implement the new pay-per-use system on the AP-68.
Furthermore, the contract includes the development of a unified commercial 'backoffice'. This system will provide technological support for the entire system, both for the AP-68 and for other high-capacity roads that may be implemented in the future. This 'backoffice' will facilitate integrated management of traffic on these roads, including billing, collection, user support, claims management, and financial control.
A period of 14 weeks has been set for the drafting of the project, followed by another 50 weeks for the execution of the works and the full commissioning of the system. The contract also includes the operational management of the system for the first five years after its launch on the Álava section of the AP-68 highway.
According to the Álava Provincial Council, the new pay-per-use system on the Álava section of the AP-68 will be implemented gradually, in phases, to conduct the necessary tests and fully guarantee its reliability and proper functioning.
