The Basque Government announced on Monday the project to build an aquaculture park at the site of the former Lemoiz nuclear power plant. This initiative will involve an investment of 170 million euros over the next 10 years and will focus on sole fish farming.
This project is expected to create around 200 direct jobs and will collaborate with the University of the Basque Country, Basque research and technology centers, and companies in the biotechnology sector. The goal is to strengthen the food sector and achieve international success, promoting the blue economy.
“"It is anticipated that by 2030, the first “made in euskadi” fish will be on the market, with a production capacity of 3,000 tons annually."
This aquaculture park will be developed by the Portuguese company Sea Eight and is a project envisioned since the Basque Government acquired the Basordas lands, which belonged to Iberduero (now Iberdrola). According to previous information, this initiative will save Iberdrola 17 million euros in demolition and recovery costs.
