Euskadi has set a new record for Social Security affiliation in May, reaching 1,042,680 individuals. The number of unemployed people has also decreased, with 72 fewer than in April and a year-on-year drop of 926 people compared to May 2025.
In the Basque Autonomous Community, 65,806 new contracts were signed, of which 16,237 (24.7%) were permanent. The labor market's performance is positive, indicating that companies continue to generate employment opportunities.
The unemployment reduction is consistent across all three historical territories –Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa– and in most economic sectors, with the exception of Industry and individuals with no prior employment. Furthermore, short-term unemployment has significantly decreased, and long-term unemployment has also seen a slight reduction.
The strong labor market situation reflects the resilience of the Basque economy. Nevertheless, the Department of Economy, Labor, and Employment is committed to enhancing job quality and improving the employability of individuals facing greater challenges in accessing the labor market, within a complex international landscape.
