These openings bring the total number of Consum establishments to over a thousand, including both owned stores and Charter franchises. The company plans to open 18 new supermarkets throughout this year, with 7 in Catalonia, 6 in the Valencian Community (including Orihuela, Cox, Torrevieja, Sagunto, València, and Ontinyent), 3 in Andalusia, and 2 in Castilla-La Mancha.
The new supermarket in Ciudad Real, the cooperative's first in the city, is located in a standalone building on Carretera de Puertollano s/n. It features a surface area of 1,400 m², 100 parking spaces for customers with two electric vehicle charging points, and solar panels for self-consumption, advancing towards a more sustainable energy model.
Meanwhile, the Orihuela store, situated at calle Duque de Tamames, nº 36, becomes the fifth supermarket in the locality and brings the total number of Consum establishments in the province of Alicante to nearly 80. This supermarket has a surface area of 1,050 m². Both establishments will offer a wide assortment of fresh products with personalized service in sections such as fishmonger, delicatessen, and butcher, as well as bulk fruit and vegetables, bakery, perfumery, and pet section, along with Consum's exclusive brands.
These two inaugurations have generated nearly 70 new jobs, prioritizing the proximity of employees' homes to the stores, in line with the cooperative's commitment to creating stable and quality employment. Consum has created approximately 1,300 jobs in the last year, reaching 23,000 employees, and has doubled its workforce in the last decade with almost 10,000 new positions.
The cooperative implemented a salary increase of 2.9% for 100% of its staff last February, accumulating a 20% increase over the last 4 years. The minimum entry salary for partner staff is 19,318 gross euros annually. Additionally, Consum has reduced the annual working hours by 20, from 1,790 to 1,770, one of the lowest in the sector, and offers measures such as continuous working hours, 5 weeks of vacation, and profit sharing to promote employee well-being and work-life balance.
