The ambitious renovation of Tenerife South Airport, valued at 464.1 million euros, has received no bids in its first public tender after the submission deadline expired.

The project, part of Aena's investment plan for the 2027-2031 period, was scheduled for an eight-year execution. The complexity of the work, which must be carried out while keeping the facilities operational, has been identified as the main factor that discouraged construction firms.

"The reality is that the risk the market has attributed to this project is higher than expected."

The intervention requires demolishing specific areas of the terminal and building new structures, a technical challenge compounded by uncertainty regarding long-term construction costs. Despite this initial result, Aena's management has ruled out that the project is in jeopardy.
The airport operator's technicians are currently evaluating the contract conditions to adjust the tender. The goal is to present a new proposal that is more attractive to the market and allows for the fulfillment of the investment requirements planned for the Canary Islands.
