The General Intervention has issued an alert regarding the continuous breach of the City Council's payment period, which has remained above the legal limit since April 2025. Data shows a progressive increase, reaching peaks of up to 68.49 days in April of the current year.
The new comptroller warned in early June about this non-compliance, which has persisted for several consecutive months, even though the formal alert was only triggered after two months of exceeding the legal margin. However, the past thirteen months already showed delays.
The issue of late payments is primarily concentrated in two municipal companies: the Sociedad de Promoción de la Ciudad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Sociedad Municipal de Gestión Urbanística (Geursa). These entities are experiencing significant delays that impact the overall statistics.
Promoción has been in breach of payment deadlines since July 2023, with maximum delays reaching up to 167.76 days between April and June 2024. Geursa faces an even more critical situation, with payment periods that have exceeded 700 days in previous months and currently stand at 83.98 days.
These institutional delays not only jeopardize the City Council's fiscal autonomy with the Autonomous Community and the loss of state funds but also necessitate the payment of default interest to creditors.
