At the beginning of the second half of 2026, the number of official workers in Lanzarote stands at 70,655 people, an increase of more than 1,100 compared to the same period last year. This new island record confirms the continuous growth trend in employment observed since mid-2021.
By sectors, services lead employment, with hospitality and commerce as the main drivers, totaling 63,096 professionals. Industry has 2,238 workers, while construction employs 4,652 people. Agriculture registers the lowest figure, with 669 hires.
Regarding the type of occupation, employment by others remains predominant, with 57,894 workers at the close of the first semester, compared to 12,761 self-employed individuals. Both categories have shown improvements compared to the previous summer.
Arrecife remains the municipality with the highest employment concentration, registering 25,438 individuals (20,920 employed by others and 4,518 self-employed). At the opposite end is Haría, with 1,223 jobs. Tías has 13,263 workers, followed by Yaiza with 11,046 and Teguise with 9,819.
San Bartolomé ranks fifth with 7,882 jobs, and Tinajo is the second to last municipality with 1,984 positions.
Regarding unemployment, August began with 7,017 people out of work (4,016 women and 3,001 men). Although this figure is lower than last year's, it represents an increase of 196 people compared to June, marking the worst record for 2026. In terms of contracts, 34,957 were signed between January and July, a 3.5% increase from the previous year.
