The island of Gran Canaria is consolidating its position as a leader in electric vehicle adoption in the archipelago, hosting 51% of these automobiles and projecting a network of 100 charging points by the end of 2026.

This leadership is reinforced by the Movelec fair in Arinaga, within the municipality of Agüimes, an event that has attracted numerous families and curious individuals interested in sustainable mobility alternatives. The ninth edition of Movelec gains special relevance given the global increase in fuel prices, which has boosted interest in more economical and environmentally friendly options.

"In the situation we are in, and with what scientific sources confirm, millions of people die in Europe each year from pollution, also in the Canary Islands, and residents suffer from coronary, respiratory, and dermatological conditions derived from poor air quality."

During the fair's opening day, the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria highlighted that electric vehicles have moved beyond the private sphere to become a priority for public administrations, which are seeking more sustainable mobility models. The fair in Arinaga contributes to this goal, promoting an ecosystem that aims for a cleaner island less dependent on fossil fuels.
The rising cost of oil is a growing concern for island residents, which has driven interest in alternatives. A recent study, cited by the counselor of Environment and Energy of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, reveals a 150% increase in Spanish families' interest in acquiring an electric vehicle. Furthermore, the significant cost difference is emphasized: traveling 100 kilometers in a fossil fuel car costs approximately eight euros, while in an electric vehicle, even with the highest tariff, the cost is around 1.75 euros.

"Movelec is consolidating itself as the most important fair in the electric vehicle sector in the Canary Islands and today it is an essential reference not only in Gran Canaria, but throughout the Archipelago."
