The project to transform the former Frigorsa building in Arrecife into a marine research facility has reached a key milestone following approval from the Port Authority of Las Palmas.

The initiative, promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, aims to revitalize the Puerto Naos area. The goal is to convert this space, historically linked to the fishing industry, into a strategic hub dedicated to education, research, and business development within the blue economy framework.
The administrative step taken this Thursday allows for the start of the public exhibition period for the building's concession request. This procedure is an essential requirement for the island government to proceed with the establishment of the future Center for Marine Environment and Fisheries Research.
This infrastructure is part of a broader strategy that includes six transformative interventions along the Arrecife coastline. With this center, the capital of Lanzarote will not only expand its scientific offerings but also incorporate a museum space dedicated to the dissemination of marine knowledge.
