The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published the call for this program, which seeks to compensate contributions paid during the first two months of medical leave. The aid can reach a maximum of 700 euros and will be retroactive from January 1, 2026.
The Vice President and Minister of Economy, Manuel Domínguez, explained that the initiative aims to prevent additional financial hardship for self-employed workers. "The measure is designed to prevent illness or accidents from causing further economic damage to those who carry out their self-employed activity in the Canary Islands," he stated. This aid complements other measures in the Self-Employed Support Plan, seeking to protect those who "sustain the Canary Islands' economy day by day."
The aid will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis for applications that meet the requirements: having tax residency in the Canary Islands, conducting business on the islands, and being up-to-date with tax authorities. Self-employed individuals without employees, mutualists, and members of companies or community property exercising their self-employed activity in the Archipelago are eligible.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the official website of the Government of the Canary Islands. Once the eligible situation is verified, payment will be made in a single installment without the need for subsequent financial justification.
This program is part of the Self-Employed Support Plan, which includes other measures such as the Concilia Program (aid for childcare and family care expenses), the +Uno52 program (incentive for the first permanent hiring of individuals over 52), interest subsidies for loans, the "cuota cero" (zero fee) for new entrepreneurs, and IGIC exemption for self-employed individuals earning less than 50,000 euros.
