The Port of Almería will soon feature a new service area at its western entrance, including a restaurant and a large retail space, aimed at meeting the needs of the one million passengers who use the facility annually.

The Port Authority of Almería (APA), through the company Garajes Indalo, will execute a project via administrative concession that will transform over 8,500 square meters of land currently occupied by obsolete structures. The initiative, with an investment of 7.7 million euros, will provide the port with a 350-square-meter restaurant and a retail space of nearly 5,000 square meters across two floors, along with 156 parking spaces.
This new complex, scheduled for completion in 2028, will not only serve passengers, particularly during the Strait of Gibraltar Crossing Operation, but also benefit the port community and the citizens of Almería. The project includes the creation of landscaped areas to beautify the surroundings, enhancing the image of the Varadero building and the western entrance to the city.
The initiative aims to optimize passenger flow and reduce congestion in surrounding areas, allowing travelers to shop and dine within the port zone. The President of the APA, Rosario Soto, highlighted that the project will reinforce the port's image as a modern and efficient embarkation point, aligned with user needs, and will boost the economic development of the area.
The service area is expected to generate approximately 50 direct jobs once operational and contribute over 5 million euros in revenue to the APA. The Mayoress of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, emphasized that this development strengthens the port's functional integration with the city and expands opportunities for its use and enjoyment, stimulating the local economy and creating activity and employment.
The construction is part of the reorganization efforts of the port's public domain and is compatible with the project by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for direct access from the A-7 Motorway, which will further simplify access to the plot.
