The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has revealed that the investment in the high-speed rail section between Almería and Murcia reached 1.5 million euros daily in 2025, as part of the Mediterranean Corridor development.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has presented an overview of the actions carried out in 2025 on the high-speed railway Mediterranean Corridor. Investments in the nearly 200-kilometer section connecting Almería with Murcia have been substantial.
The platform works for high-speed rail and urban integrations, including undergrounding projects, amounted to an expenditure of 566.60 million euros. Of this figure, 126.33 million euros were allocated to the railway integration at the high-speed station in Lorca, in the Murcia region.
This investment translates into an average of 1.5 million euros daily dedicated to the works on the Almería-Murcia Region section of the Mediterranean Corridor. These figures were released during the first meeting of the new Corridor Commissioner with the minister, also attended by the president of the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif).
Official representatives highlighted that, of the almost 1,290 million euros executed across the entire corridor last year, nearly half was allocated to the Almería-Murcia axis. In contrast, the section between Almería and Granada is still in the study phase, a significant improvement compared to 2018, when it was not even planned.

"In 2018, 45 percent of the route was under construction or completed, while the latest official figures raise it to 83 percent. In just 7 years, the length of works has increased from 440 kilometers to the current 870."

an official statement from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility
Through Adif, works worth 8,638 million euros have been tendered, and contracts totaling 6,705 million euros have been awarded between June 2018 and March 31, 2026. During this period, the investment in works already executed or completed has amounted to 6,023 million euros, with over 2,900 million executed in just over two years, since January 2024.
In addition to the Almería-Murcia section, the Ministry emphasizes the 40.7 million euro investment in 2025 for the construction of viaducts and the platform of the Loja Variant in the province of Granada. For the current year, the completion of works at Murcia del Carmen station and the connection between Murcia and Alcantarilla, along with the undergrounding of Nonduermas and Sangonera, is anticipated.
The Mediterranean Corridor, which will extend from Algeciras to France, is expected to be completed by 2030, significantly improving connectivity for Andalusian cities.
