The municipality of Mijas, located on the Costa del Sol, recorded an impressive 84.90% hotel occupancy rate during the recent Easter Week, surpassing initial expectations and establishing itself as one of the most sought-after destinations in the region.
The Mijas Town Council, through its Department of Tourism, has positively assessed the results achieved. Francisco Jerez, the Tourism Councillor, highlighted that these figures reflect the commitment and capability of the local tourism sector to sustain activity and deliver positive outcomes, even when initial forecasts were unfavorable.
“
"These figures reflect the commitment and capacity of Mijas' tourism sector to sustain activity and yield positive results, even in a context where all forecasts pointed to the contrary."
Jerez emphasized that the success of Easter Week has a direct and beneficial impact on the local economy, boosting hospitality, commerce, and the overall productive fabric of the municipality. He attributed this achievement to the sector's efforts, which demonstrated its ability to adapt, enhance its offerings, and respond effectively to a challenging scenario marked by railway connectivity issues and very negative predictions.
Furthermore, the councillor noted that favorable weather conditions and a significant increase in last-minute bookings contributed to improving initial projections. This allowed Easter Week to conclude with highly satisfactory occupancy levels, despite the previous difficulties. International tourism also played a crucial role, being instrumental in sustaining activity and strengthening Mijas' position as a competitive European destination.

"These figures are not a matter of chance, but the result of the constant work of sector professionals, who have demonstrated their ability to generate opportunities and boost the local economy."
Finally, Jerez stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen the destination's structural elements, particularly regarding connectivity. The goal is to consolidate this positive trend and ensure that Mijas remains an economic and tourist engine throughout the year.
