The Jaén City Council has informed residents of the Valdeastillas neighborhood about plans to convert the city's former water park into an exclusive tourist complex, a private initiative aimed at revitalizing the area and creating jobs.

The mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán, shared details of the proposal, named Eco-Active Resort, during the closing of the neighborhood association's assembly. This project, driven by a Jaén-based business group from Bailén and supported by LBA Arquitectos, was initially presented verbally in July 2025.
The initiative envisions a diverse tourism offering, including bungalows, a dedicated area for motorhomes, event spaces, multi-adventure activities, and glamping options. Additionally, several swimming pools are planned, some designed for nighttime use and events, leveraging the natural topography of the land.
The estimated investment for the Eco-Active Resort totals 2.5 million euros. It is projected to create 28 direct jobs and over 30 indirect jobs. Promoters anticipate that with just 65% occupancy, the initial investment could be quickly recovered.

"In general, we are happy to see life being brought back to this monstrosity that was allowed to be plundered."

Miguel Castro · President of the Neighborhood Association
The project will be developed through a patrimonial concession, which involves the transfer of public land use to a private entity. This concession must be published on the City Council's contractor profile before the end of the first semester, allowing other companies to submit their own proposals.
