The Málaga TechPark headquarters hosted the institutional event where key results were announced, including a five million euro increase in funding compared to the previous year, researcher participation in 951 scientific publications, and the execution of 1,550 clinical studies, a 20% rise from 2024.
The gathering brought together representatives from health and university administrations, hospitals, care centers, Primary Care, the University of Málaga, and patient associations. The presidential table included IBIMA's Scientific Director, Francisco J. Tinahones; the Territorial Delegate for Health and Consumption in Málaga, Lucía Yeves; the Director General for Research and Transfer, Loreto del Valle; and the Rector of the University of Málaga, Teodomiro López.
Tinahones emphasized that the 2025 results reflect an institute continuing to grow in scientific and competitive capacity, as well as in integration and societal commitment, with the challenge of transforming this growth into real improvements for people's health.
A key milestone was the incorporation of the Costa del Sol University Hospital, expanding the institute's multidisciplinary model and strengthening biomedical research across the province. This is complemented by the five-year renewal of IBIMA's accreditation as a Health Research Institute, endorsing its project's solidity and commitment to excellence.
IBIMA's scientific structure in 2025 comprised 91 research groups, with 1,383 researchers, 178 support technicians, and 41 management professionals. Funding attracted exceeded 37 million euros, with 388 active projects and 61 new funded projects. Notably, 3.5 million euros were secured from European calls, along with the second ERC Starting Grant linked to the institute.
Scientific output reached 951 publications, with 88% in top-tier (Q1 and Q2) journals and 55% led by IBIMA researchers. The cumulative impact factor stood at 3,322 points.
Clinical research saw a 20% increase, with 1,550 clinical studies conducted, 1,120 of which were clinical trials. Revenue associated with clinical trials surpassed 14 million euros.
In innovation and transfer, IBIMA recorded 112 active ideas with innovation potential, 19 active licenses, 24 industry collaborations, and three active spin-offs. Outreach and citizen engagement initiatives raised over 365,000 euros to support new research projects.
