The iconic establishment that marked Mercadona's arrival in Almería, located on Avenida del Mediterráneo, is preparing for a new chapter after its closure in January 2025, reopening its doors as a Consum supermarket.

The premises, which for over 25 years were known by residents as the Mercadona on Avenida del Mediterráneo, despite its official address at 320 Fénix Street, have been acquired by a new company. The space is currently undergoing a renovation process, evidenced by the construction materials accumulated at its entrance.
Confirmation of the establishment's new identity came through the newly installed automatic door, which now displays the name of the supermarket chain Consum. This move solidifies Consum's expansion in the Almería capital, where it already operates three large stores.

The neighbors following the process are eager for the 'super' that for years has been the 'neighborhood store' to reopen its doors.

Although exact opening dates have not yet been revealed, the news has generated anticipation among residents, who consider this supermarket a landmark in the neighborhood. The Consum chain itself had previously announced plans to open new stores in Almería, strengthening its presence in the city.
Currently, Consum has three other supermarkets in Almería city: one on Ángel Jover Street, located on the ground floor of the Ego Sport Center gym; another on Martínez Oña Street, in the Nueva Andalucía neighborhood; and a third in Vega de Acá, inaugurated in September 2025.
