Campo de Gibraltar Sees Highest Job Creation in June Since Pandemic

The region reduces unemployment by 978 people compared to May, with the services sector being the main driver of this seasonal improvement.

Campo de Gibraltar closed the first half of 2026 with 24,859 unemployed individuals, registering in June the highest job creation in this region since the pandemic, with a decrease of 978 unemployed compared to May.

The arrival of summer has boosted the reduction of unemployment in Campo de Gibraltar, which recorded 24,859 unemployed at the end of the first half of 2026. This figure represents a decrease of 978 people compared to May (25,837), marking the best job creation data for a June since the pandemic.
According to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the services sector was the main driver of this decline, accounting for 740 of the 978 fewer unemployed. Other sectors such as construction, industry, and agriculture also saw decreases, albeit to a lesser extent. These figures reflect the seasonality of the region's productive fabric.
In year-on-year comparison, the balance is very positive, with 2,594 fewer job seekers than in June 2025. This trend extends the job generation streak to 45 months, as registered unemployment has consistently been lower than the previous year since October 2022.
By municipalities, Algeciras closed the semester with 11,206 registered job seekers (-457 from May), while La Línea had 258 fewer (7,610). San Roque reduced unemployment by 99 people (2,532), Los Barrios by 78 (1,819), and Tarifa by 59 (841). In the interior, Castellar lost 11 unemployed (197), Jimena 10 (485), and San Martín del Tesorillo 6 (169).
On an annual basis, Algeciras led the absolute decrease with 1,312 fewer unemployed, followed by La Línea (-806) and San Roque (-191). Proportionally, Tesorillo recorded the largest drop with 14.21% fewer unemployed than in June 2025.
The reduction in unemployment was generalized across all sectors. The services sector led with 740 fewer unemployed (16,826 total). New job seekers decreased by 95 (4,123), construction by 68 (2,363), industry by 40 (1,194), and agriculture by 35 (353).
In the year-on-year comparison, the services sector decreased by 1,603 people, new unemployed by 554, construction by 237, industry by 124, and agriculture by 76.
In June, the monthly unemployment reduction was more beneficial for women (612 departures from records) than for men (366). However, the gender gap persists, with 15,575 women (62.65%) and 9,284 men registered.
At the Andalusian level, despite losing 13,887 affiliates in June, the labor market shows strength, marking the best June since 2021. The province of Cádiz has reduced unemployment by 3,933 people, positioning itself as the most benefited by the summer season and achieving a record of 449,905 contributors.
The CCOO union celebrated the reduction in unemployment but highlighted the structural problem of seasonality, advocating for the promotion of sectors such as industry and logistics.
