During the visit to a pig farm in Pulpí, the minister was able to observe the evolution of the sector in the province of Almería. The visited farm is a benchmark in modernization, incorporating advanced animal feeding systems and technical solutions that improve productive efficiency.
Furthermore, the farm features innovative mechanisms for slurry management, optimizing waste treatment and contributing to a more environmentally efficient activity. This approach underscores the sector's commitment to efficiency and environmental respect.
The intensive pig farming sector in Almería is significant, with over 560 farms and a capacity exceeding 937,000 livestock places. The Junta de Andalucía highlights its contribution to the economic development of the territory and to retaining population in rural areas.
“"Livestock farming is fundamental in the municipality, and we appreciate the minister's visit to one of the farms where advancements in the pig sector are evident."
The minister acknowledged the difficulties faced by farmers, particularly due to animal health problems such as swine fever, which have impacted markets and price evolution. However, the sector now shows signs of stabilization, continuously adapting to sanitary, environmental, and market demands.
