The institution plans for a total power capacity of 2.2 MW for the implementation and operation of these plants, with a maximum budget of 7.1 million euros. This cost includes the design, financing, execution, operation, and maintenance of the solar panels.
The university had already planned for this year the installation of a self-consumption photovoltaic plant for the Elche campus, with an approximate annual cost of 330,000 euros over a decade, totaling over 3 million euros. This plant would be located in the vicinity of the El Altet building, in the interior part of the campus, behind the rectorate.
In addition to the photovoltaic installations, the UMH is working on the redevelopment of the university's front areas to improve its integration with the urban fabric of Elche, as well as on the improvement and creation of new green spaces, such as in the surroundings of La Valona and Quorum I.
This step represents a significant advancement in energy efficiency for the university, which has already undertaken other initiatives such as installing panels on building roofs in Sant Joan and the Elche rectorate, as well as installing parking and chargers for electric vehicles and LED lights in public lighting.
