The University of Alicante is organizing a new session of the ConCiencias series, focusing on artificial intelligence, to demystify its use in science and the business sector.

The session will take place on April 24, 2026, at 11:30 AM in the Mathematics Seminar Room of the Faculty of Sciences II at the UA. This event aims to offer a scientific perspective on AI, moving away from common misconceptions.
The speakers will be Julen Rebollo, Head of Data and Analytics in the Commercial area at Sandoz and associate professor in the Mathematics Department at the UA, and Laura Sánchez, Head of Advanced Analytics at the same company and associate professor at IE University. Both experts will share their insights on artificial intelligence.

"AI does not replace scientific thought; rather, it expands what scientists can do."

Julen Rebollo · Head of Data and Analytics at Sandoz and UA Associate Professor
Rebollo will provide a conceptual introduction to AI as a mathematical tool for optimizing functions, modeling uncertainty, and learning patterns from data, emphasizing that it is not a system that “thinks” or reasons like humans. His presentation will focus on AI's capacity to enhance scientific research.

"AI helps make better decisions and accelerates research, complementing, not replacing, traditional scientific work."

Laura Sánchez · Head of Advanced Analytics at Sandoz and IE University Associate Professor
For her part, Sánchez will address the application of artificial intelligence in business and science, explaining how it is used in real projects based on a background in pure sciences and differentiating academic work from the business use of AI.
This series, organized by the Faculty of Sciences and coordinated by Professor Julio Mulero from the UA's Mathematics Department, is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), part of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through UA Divulga, the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I) of the UA.
