The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of València (APV) has approved the extension of APM Terminals València's concession until 2049, involving a €10.4 million investment for electrification and terminal enhancements.

The decision, made at Wednesday's meeting, allows APM Terminals to reach the maximum 50-year ordinary extension permitted by port legislation. This extension is linked to a new investment commitment of €10.4 million, which will be allocated to improving the terminal's productivity, energy efficiency, and environmental quality.
The main planned action is the electrification of the Levante Quay through the installation of the first Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system out of four that APM Terminals plans to deploy in València. This initial phase will include the energy delivery center and the necessary transformation and conversion substation for its operation, in line with European port decarbonization objectives for 2030.

"APM Terminals not only focuses on our own operational emissions but works globally to drive solutions that reduce emissions across the entire terminal ecosystem, including those of our customers."

A second investment axis will allow the adaptation of the Levante Quay's defenses for the operation of large vessels, such as E-class and EEE-class ships, which call within the framework of the Gemini Cooperation, involving Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. This action is key to serving Asia-Mediterranean routes with a draft of up to 16.5 meters.
Additionally, the APV has approved a non-substantial modification of the concession to expand the area of 41,602 square meters in the northern extension of the Port of València to València North Terminal. Approval has also been given for the expansion of 3,380 square meters in the southern extension of the port to the Real Club Náutico de València.
The Board has also approved a one-year extension of the concession to the company Chema Ballester and to the concession held by Trans-Base Soler. Regarding the latter, it has also been agreed to revert 28,155 square meters to the Port Authority of València as a result of its partial termination.
Finally, the proposal to initiate the bidding procedure for the execution of works to adapt the Turia breakwater for cruise ship docking in the Port of València has been approved, with an estimated investment of €46.3 million. Likewise, the transfer of four hoppers from the APV to the Sagunto City Council has been agreed upon; these will be restored and located in a roundabout near the Sagunto Industrial Museum.
