The Orihuela City Council has presented the preliminary version of the new Business Park, a strategic initiative that foresees an investment of 65 million euros and the creation of up to 10,000 jobs.

The new Business Park in Orihuela, presented today at the Miguel Hernández Cultural Center, is poised to become a key driver for the economic development of the municipality and the entire Vega Baja region. The project encompasses over two million square meters designated for industrial, logistics, and business activities, with an estimated investment of 65 million euros.
Eduardo G. Rodríguez Carmona, a technician from Local Economic Promotion, contextualized the initiative within the development strategy of the Valencian Community. The park aims to complement the supply of new industrial and tertiary land in the south of the region, adhering to principles of sustainability, technological innovation, and circular economy, aligning with the Valencian Territorial Strategy and the Reindustrialization Strategy.
The Vega Baja, despite being a significant industrial hub, has room for growth in qualified employment. The new park seeks to address this imbalance and strengthen Orihuela's role. In the most favorable scenarios, up to 10,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs could be created. The aim is to attract companies in next-generation agri-food, renewable energy, advanced logistics, and new technologies.
The business objective is to increase the number of industrial companies in Orihuela by approximately 50% and raise its share of industrial activity in the Vega Baja to 25%. The Councilor for Urban Planning, Matías Ruiz Peñalver, detailed the administrative process, noting that the project, initiated in April 2021, has overcome obstacles such as the annulment of the General Plan and flood risk reports.
The park will feature over 1.1 million square meters of industrial plots, nearly 200,000 m² for tertiary use, over 109,000 m² of endowment land, and more than 435,000 m² of green areas. The projected investment is 65 million euros, with estimated revenues of 182 million. Over 85% of the land ownership is already represented in the process.
The City Council has set up the email address parqueempresarial@orihuela.es to handle investor inquiries. The drafting team from Grupo DAYHE Development & Investment presented the development model, specializing in agri-food industry, renewable energy, and logistics. Its strategic location next to the A-7 highway and within the Mediterranean logistics corridor is a key advantage.
The proposal includes an energy capacity of 110 megawatts and is exploring new road connections, including direct access from the A-7. The project incorporates advanced criteria for sustainability, energy efficiency, water management, and smart infrastructure. The flexibility in plot configuration will accommodate businesses ranging from SMEs to large logistics platforms.
The mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, has championed the business park as a historic opportunity to foster a new economic growth model, emphasizing job creation and investment. He highlighted that significant decisions transform a city beyond a single term and thanked the efforts of municipal technicians, landowners, and political leaders.
Vegara expressed confidence that the park will enhance Orihuela's standing as an economic benchmark in the south of the Valencian Community and the Vega Baja, securing a certain future for upcoming generations. The presentation of this preliminary version marks another step towards consolidating Orihuela as a hub for economic, industrial, and logistical activity in southeastern Spain.
