The third vice president and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, visited the València Sud station this Tuesday to confirm the completion of reconstruction work. The Generalitat reported that the works have entered their final phase, allowing for the progressive reincorporation of staff.
This month, all staff from Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) will definitively return to the facilities and offices of València Sud, located near the Poyo ravine. This will allow the renovated headquarters to operate normally in the coming weeks, discontinuing the use of temporary facilities.
Martínez Mus explained that auxiliary tracks, fixed installation dependencies, and the new intermodal station and parking had already been put into operation, along with other dependencies for circulation and driving personnel. The València Sud facilities include central offices, the Command Post, workshops, and auxiliary buildings such as the Access and Security office, Historical Archive, union headquarters, medical service, and maintenance facilities.
The minister highlighted that the Command Post's Data Center has also been moved to the upper floors of the building, as have the power supply systems, to ensure their operation in adverse circumstances. FGV has allocated nearly 60 million euros to the reconstruction of the València Sud complex, of which 30 million were for the rehabilitation and equipment of the facilities devastated by water, and more than 28 million for the reconstruction of auxiliary tracks, the new station, and parking.
In total, the Generalitat has invested over 140 million euros to address the extensive damage caused by the floods of October 29, 2024, to the Metrovalencia network. The restoration of circulation across the entire affected network was achieved last June, ensuring regular service for users. Since then, reconstruction efforts have focused on the operational headquarters without affecting travelers.
The new Metrovalencia Command Post will begin trial operations in the coming weeks, replacing the provisional one, which will be kept as a backup. This new control center has been installed on the first floor of the València Sud office building, replacing the one destroyed by water. It will feature an alternative team, currently operating in the Machado workshops.
The Command Post is the nerve center that supports all traffic on a railway network like Metrovalencia, regulating and managing circulation, controlling electrical substations, catenaries, and station facilities, as well as passenger assistance systems and the citizen security operational center.
The new València Sud station has also been operational since January 16, improving accessibility and intermodality. It includes an underground pedestrian passage connecting the platforms to the parking lot, with over 530 vehicle spaces, and is adapted for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM) with three elevators.
