On Labor Day, the Marina Alta Observatory of Creama has published the most relevant figures on the employment situation in the region. The data, updated at the end of the first quarter of 2026, show a landscape with significant progress, but also with pending challenges.
Social Security affiliations have reached 64,518, a record in the historical series. This number represents a 2.4% increase compared to the previous quarter and 4% more than a year ago, indicating continuous job creation in the area. The affiliation rate also maintains a positive trend, increasing two percentage points in one year to stand at 51.7%.
“"These data reflect the reality of our region and invite us to continue working for quality, stable, and future-oriented employment."
However, the unemployment rate, which stands at 10.5%, presents a duality. Although it has decreased compared to 11.67% the previous year, the region faces notable territorial inequality. While the unemployment rate on the coast is 9.9%, in inland areas it rises to 14%, evidencing disparities in access to work.
Another notable aspect is the high percentage of self-employed individuals, reaching 30%, exceeding the provincial and regional average by 10 points. Furthermore, the region records high job stability, as two out of three contracts are permanent. Employment demand is mainly concentrated in the commerce, hospitality, and construction sectors, which together account for 47.9% of the total, highlighting the strong dependence of the local economy on tourism.
